Area of expertise: Since 1997, Alexei Belyaev has been developing treatments for patients with advanced peritoneal cancers. He was one of the first in Russia to introduce cytoreductive surgery with intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemoperfusion. He successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on this subject in 2004.
Alexei Belyaev is one of the top experts in Russia in the field of health organisation and public health in the management of management of variables affecting the survival and quality of life of cancer patients. Since 2010, he has been the head of NMRC of Oncology named after N.N.Petrov of MoH of Russia. The institution's scientific and practical work focuses on studying the etiology and pathogenesis of carcinogenesis, as well as developing methods of prevention, diagnosis, surgery, radiation, medication, combined and comprehensive treatment of malignant tumours in adults and children.
Belyaev founded the Association of Oncologists of the North-Western Federal District with the help of the NMRC team. Additionally, he participates actively in the Scientific Society of Oncologists of St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg International Oncology Forum White Nights is the biggest of the regular scientific and practical conferences, forums, and workshops that he holds.
He has supervised 11 PhD theses and four DSc dissertations.
