Abstract

Currently, laparoscopic technologies are widely used in the surgical treatment of rectal cancer. However, there is still cautiousness regarding the performance of video-assisted combined interventions in the pelvic cavity, with concerns raised about the safety and oncological adequacy of such procedures.

This article provides an overview of the results of studies presented in contemporary literature devoted to the evaluation of the feasibility of laparoscopic extrafascial total mesorectal excision. Although there have been reports of successful outcomes in individual cases of laparoscopic combined interventions, the limited number of observations at present does not support the routine recommendation of this method for patients with T4b rectal cancer.
